We are HakureiNet, we're a network of services dedicated to fans of the NEC PC-9800 series of TouHou Project games. The reason we have such a network is to keep information about the PC-9800 series, the TouHou games made for it (1-5), and to bring together fans of all backgrounds in a way that's pretty underground and free of corporate control.
The TouHou project is a series of Danmaku (Bullet hell) games made by doujin game creator ZUN, and Team Shanghai Alice. The first TouHou game is similar to the likes of Arkanoid and Breakout but with bullets you have to dodge, while the rest of the games from 2 onward are vertical scrolling curtain fire shoot em up games (which I will here in after refer to as shmups). The main character throught most of the games is Reimu Hakurei, a shrine maiden, and Marisa Kirisame, a witch. There are of course other characters you can play us starting from TouHou 3 onwards.
We run this network because it gives us a chance to shed light on the PC-98 TouHou games, as well as the PC-98 itself, as it's often not discussed by many amongst the TouHou community. Now, whether you've actually played the TouHou games or you're only familiar with some of the memes, fan works, music remixes, fumos, it doesn't make a difference in our network, because we welcome and educate all.
The PC-9800 series (PC-98) is a series of 16/32 bit Japanese personal computers developed by Nippon Electronics Corporation (NEC) from 1982-2003, and is the successor to the PC-88 series. All in all, these were the old computers ZUN used to make the original TouHou games from 1995-1998.
